Heat Event & Electricity Conservation

Jun 29, 2026

Centre Wellington Hydro is advising customers that Environment Canada has forecasted a period of extreme heat this week, which is expected to significantly increase electricity demand across Ontario.

During prolonged high temperatures, electricity systems experience increased stress as air conditioning and cooling needs peak. While our system is designed to operate reliably under these conditions, customer conservation during peak periods helps maintain overall system stability and reduces the risk of outages.

We encourage all customers, where feasible, to take simple steps to reduce electricity consumption, particularly during peak hours (generally late afternoon to early evening), including:

  • Setting thermostats a few degrees higher when possible
  • Delaying use of major appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and ovens
  • Turning off unnecessary lighting and equipment
  • Using fans to complement air conditioning

Even small reductions across the community can have a meaningful impact on grid reliability during high-demand periods.

Centre Wellington Hydro will continue to monitor system conditions closely and is prepared to respond as needed. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply for all customers during this heat event.

For updates and tips on conserving energy, please continue to monitor our website and communications channels.
